St Catherine's Catholic Primary Forest School

This half term Ash class have been enjoying Forest School in our NEW forest School site! We have added tyre swings recently and the children LOVE these!

We have had lots of fun and learning. We have explored objects that sink and float and why it happens, looked at density and we the created our own rafts in groups, they ALL floated even with our Lego people on board! We looked at the different habitats of animals in the UK, we explored animal tracks of some local wildlife and even built out own habitats. The whole class learned how to tie a Reef knot to the build shelters and Dens. The pupils even learned and practiced some vital first aid skills, we applied bandages, slings and talked about how to call in an emergency.

We had a few wet sessions and one very cold Forest School, so we all enjoyed some Christmas crafts inside where we made snowflake and Christmas tree decorations and decorated our wood cookies to take home.

In our final session for this half term, we toasted Marshmallows over the fire, we looked at fire safety and I showed them a chemical fire – which was very exciting!

The children always have some free exploring time at the end of each session. The mud kitchen and digging area are a favourite! So just remember to send them in old clothes that can get MUDDY and warm waterproof clothing.

We also Run Holiday club at St Catherine's in the holidays and a parent and under 5s group through term time if you would like to join us – BOOK HERE
