St Joseph's Catholic Primary Forest School

Firstly, a very warm welcome to all that have taken part in a Forest School session this term. It has been wonderful to join St Josephs on Mondays and great to see the children engaging with the outdoors despite the chilly weather we’ve had recently.

My name's Miss Haworth from Primary Forest Schools working within the wonderful counties of Dorset and Hampshire. I have worked as an outdoor activity instructor for the past 4 years with my favourite sessions to run always being environmental, nothing can beat the excitement of lighting your first fire or discovering a bug you've never seen before.

This half term the year 1 and year 2 students have worked on many different topics such as Shapes and Colours to Mud, to Minibeasts, and even some Den building a few weeks ago. It’s been brilliant to see the children learning through nature and experiencing finding and identifying creepy crawlies and working together to ensure they have a waterproof den for their group, excluding a water test. I’ve been impressed by the group’s engagement and perseverance during the cold weather and look forward to the next week with them where we will be learning about fire and fire safety to finish the half term.

I have been working to develop the outdoor classroom area and get different materials ready for sessions (such as large sticks for shelter building). Although the site is looking great so far, any donations would be very welcome.

We need pallets, wood chipping, old sinks, plants/bulbs, tree stumps, tyres, firepits, planks of wood, bricks, pots/pans, utenstials, cable drums, outdoor clothing, wellies, craft materials.

if you have any donation please email the school or contact Rachel admin@primary-forest-school.co.uk

Our new after school club has be a hit with KS2 in Spring 1 and now we are taking bookings for KS1 for Spring 2 term, with lots of games and activites the children have been having a great time at the end of the day exploring the outdoors.
